Why is Root Canal Treatment Needed?

When the blood or nerve supply of the tooth (called the pulp) becomes infected due to decay or injury, root canal treatment (also known as endodontics) is required. In the early stages of an infection, you may not feel any pain. In some cases, the color of your tooth may darken, indicating that the nerve of the tooth has died. When the pulp, the soft tissue inside the root canal, becomes inflamed or infected, root canal treatment is required. Deep decay is caused by repeated dental procedures on the tooth.
